Wates Living Space builds new homes, refurbishes existing properties and manages regeneration schemes across England and Scotland. A pioneer of partnership working, we share knowledge through our nationwide best practice network to ensure that our customers benefit from our experience right across the country.

New Build
Wates has been creating new buildings since 1897 and over a century’s accumulated knowledge is at the heart of our new build service. We are delighted to have created landmark developments for long-term customers like Stadium Housing, York Housing Association and the Peabody Trust. One of our prime new build projects currently under way is the development of 160 homes in Stratford, East London, within a tower shaped like a perfect ellipse and low level housing alongside new office facilities. These homes will overlook London’s new Olympic village and the international rail terminal.

Home Improvement
Since the birth of the Government’s Decent Homes Programme Wates has been a leading contractor in large-scale home improvement projects. One of our first, with Whitefriars Housing Group in Coventry, resulted in the completion of the project a year ahead of schedule and led to a further partnership with Whitefriars on a major regeneration project.

We are now working with 24 customers within long-term partnerships, using local labour wherever possible and recruiting around 75% of staff on these projects from the local community.

Regeneration
Wates’ expertise in regeneration became established in the 1930s, particularly in south London. Today, Wates Living Space brings significant expertise to regeneration projects such as Liberty Park in the Midlands where we’re transforming a largely abandoned estate into the most desired address in the area.
