About Us
Our affordable housing business has undertaken a period
of sustained growth and we have become one of the UK’s leading companies working in this important sector, building or refurbishing over 20,000 units in 2006.
Building on this growth, we have established a dedicated affordable housing division operating under a fresh new identity - 'Wates Living Space'.
From Decent Homes to sustainable communities
While creating high quality homes is our core activity, the nature of our work is very much community based. Our activities go far beyond the building operations to have a wider impact on quality of life, not only for residents who live in the homes, but for those in neighbouring areas and for local businesses. In fact it is our belief that these wider issues must be addressed in a collaborative way to achieve sustainable communities.
Environmental Sustainability
Like social landlords, sustainability is at the top of our agenda and we strive for more environmentally friendly homes, for innovation and for sustainable technology. We are accredited to ISO14001 and all of our sites and offices implement a tailored environmental
management plan.
Dedicated to Affordable Housing
Increasing the supply of affordable housing is now more important than ever, with a growing focus on the regeneration of communities and on achieving a better quality
of housing.
Our proven experience with a wide range of building techniques and our ability to deliver quality housing developments
on challenging sites meet these needs.
Moving Up a Gear
We were delighted to be invited by the influential Smith Institute, along with other distinguished commentators, to contribute to their important report, "Moving Up a Gear: New Challenges for Housing Associations" which was published in February 2008. Our contribution, entitled Forming New Housing Partnerships for a Step Change in Delivery, is one of eleven papers which examine the future roles and performance of housing associations and how the sector can adapt and grow.
The full report is available to download here.
