Random House is the 65,000sq.ft headquarters of publishing company Random House Limited. The nine-storey concrete framed structure with facing brick cavity external walls and flat roof has undergone a complete internal and external refurbishment including windows.
Internal works involved demolition, alterations and strip out, new partitions, screens, doors, ceilings and floor finishes and new built in joinery to all floors, modification of services and installation of a new four pipe fan-coil system and M&E plant on the roof. Additional work to the ground floor involved a new kitchen and restaurant, and new lift installations with extended access to the eighth floor.
The refurbishment has brought the whole building up to modern standards with light airy open plan and cellular offices, restaurant/ catering facilities, staff break-out areas, meeting rooms, conference facilities, a new reception and toilet facilities. The building has raised access floors throughout with carpeting to offices floors, ceramic tiles to the kitchen and marble flooring in the reception. The restaurant and conference suite have acoustic barriers, and the meeting rooms have been created with the use of glazed partitioning.
To enable Random House staff to continue their operations with minimal disruption, we carried out the work floor by floor with employees decanting each floor accordingly. This required close liaison with the building’s manager for agreed working times to minimise disruption.
