wates giving

Wates Giving is a charitable programme focused on making a real difference to the communities in which we live, work and build.   The programme is run and funded by the Wates Family Enterprise Trust, which was set up by the Wates Family owners in 2008 with the aim of strengthening the role business has to play in society.

Since the launch of Wates Giving, over £2m has been invested in local initiatives. Projects underway include:  redeveloping community centres, supporting programmes to reduce anti-social behaviour, investing in prisoner rehabilitation schemes and supporting education resources. All of these ventures will help enhance communities for the long term.

The Wates Family owners, through Wates Giving, also back the causes that our people support with their own time and resources.  Schemes are in place to assist and promote employee volunteering plus matched funding is available to boost personal giving through fundraising and regular charitable donations.

An example of Wates Giving in action is an initiative built around our annual Community Day, when our people donate their time and resources to support local projects. In 2009, each project team was given a Wates Giving grant of £500 to donate to a charity of their choice. As a result, over £45,000 has been invested in local charities and grass roots activities which will really make a difference.
