Above all, it's about people

strategy

Wates’ approach to corporate responsibility is simple. We deliver for our customers, we look after our people, we protect the environment and we support people and communities in need.  We always have done, because we believe it is the right way to behave.

Our values of respect for people, communities and the environment characterise the way we work and inspire our CR strategy.

We show our commitment through leadership, working closely with like-minded organisations to influence public policy, promote new ideas and transform industry practice. Wates’ people serve on a number of business leadership groups including Paul Drechsler, Chairman of BITC Education Leadership Group, James Wates, Chair of the UK Contractors Group and board member of Construction Skills together with many of our senior management being involved in charitable organisations and cross sector business groups.

Three mainstream programmes align our CR activity with our customers’ interests and provide us with a consistent framework for investment and action.

They are:

  • boosting skills and employability
  • minimising waste
  • reducing the carbon footprint of our activities and operations

We have defined ambitious targets for each programme.
