governance, reporting and measurement
Reshaping Tomorrow is led and monitored by the Group Executive Committee. It is this strategic direction combined with empowerment at business level that ensures activities are integrated throughout the entire Company.
The Business in the Community CSR Index has been our key measure since 2003 and helps us assess how well we are integrating corporate responsibility into our core business processes. In 2011 we were the the first construction company to be awarded Platinum Plus status in the Construction and Building Services sector of the Index. This required each member of our Executive Committee to be independantly interviewed by an external panel. Further to this, Wates were awarded BiTC Company of the Year. This accolade further endorsed the commitments we have made.
Bi-annually the Wates Group Board are updated on our plans and progress. This forum includes the family shareholders, members of the Executive Committee and Non Executive Directors.
Annually we produce a public report updating on our performance. This is an integral part of our Annual Report and Accounts. Our Internal Audit Team is responsible for assuring that our internal CR processes and audits are robust and that we have in place the right systems and processes to deliver our business responsibly.
In addition Reshaping Tomorrow is also reviewed by independent organisations as appropriate. For example, BM Trada independently certifies that our Environmental Management System (EMS) complies with ISO 140001 which has been re-certified to 2014.

eliminating waste
A key priority under Reshaping Tomorrow is eliminating waste. Building on the success and lessons learnt from Target Zero,
reducing climate change
Our commitment to reducing CO2 emissions is twofold: we work with customers and industry partners to identify new technologies and techniques for low-carbon construction and we commit to reduce the carbon emissions from Wates’ operations.
sourcing responsibly
Sourcing responsibly includes ensuring the materials we buy are from sustainable sources and that the suppliers and sub contractors we use share the same environmental values as ourselves.
